Elva Community Engagement (www.elva.org) is a leading research and implementation organization specializing in conflict analysis, stabilization, and community engagement across West Africa. Our expertise spans from analyzing violent extremism spillover in coastal states to implementing innovative security governance programs and conducting detailed conflict research.

Our recent work includes transhumance assessments in Guinea, civil-military engagement in Côte d’Ivoire, community sensitization programs in northern Benin, and research on political dynamics in Ghana. We work closely with major donors including USAID, UK FCDO, and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deliver high-impact projects in complex environments.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Research & Project Management Intern to support our growing portfolio of projects in West Africa, with a focus on research, project management, and business development activities.

Scope of Work

The intern will support the following activities:

  • Assisting in field research design and data analysis for conflict and security assessments
  • Supporting project management for our civil-military engagement and community sensitization programs
  • Contributing to proposal development for new business opportunities in West Africa
  • Helping analyze violent extremism trends and community resilience factors
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and report writing
  • Assisting with monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects

Required Skills & Experience

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Peace & Conflict Studies, African Studies, or related field. If based in the Netherlands, being enrolled in a University during the internship is a requirement.
  • Strong interest in West African security dynamics and peacekeeping
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Strong data analysis capabilities
  • Fluent English required, French language skills highly desired
  • Previous internship or academic experience related to West Africa preferred

Practical Information

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Starting date: January 15, 2025
  • Location: Remote (Online)
  • Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week). Part-time (minimum 20 hours/week) can be discussed as well.
  • Compensation: EUR 500 per month
